Rate The Tauranga City Council

Please fill in our survey on Tauranga City Council performance after 12 months on the job. The inaugural council meeting was held twelve months ago on the 2nd of August 2024, so now is a good time to rate their performance.

Mount Parking

Sorry this meeting has been cancelled. Our speaker Warwick Lampp the election officer for Regional Council has had to decline because he is busy with the elections. We will organise something for parking later in the year. Councillor Glen Crowther has pointed out that part of the funding stack for the city center development is $47 million from parking charges. That means council needs to increase parking revenue, hence more paid parking around the city center, and very likely, paid parking at the Mount. They would probably like to bring paid parking to the whole of Tauranga, so that once again money can be siphoned from the suburbs into the great civic center black hole (the GCCBH). Contrary to urban myth, they do make money from parking. The new cars with cameras and license number recognition software are very cheap to operate compared with parking wardens. The other factor is that the supposed "cost savings" that council made to reduce the rates increase to 10% were not really savings. Council has just moved things around the balance sheet, so we now have higher fees and charges to make up for lower rates. We are still paying one way or the other, there are no meaningful savings. Any deficit will probably just be added to the debt which we will also have to pay for.

Saturday 23rd August : Shane Jones Speaking In Tauranga

Shane Jones, the Deputy Leader of New Zealand First will be speaking at the Atrium, 252 Otumoetai Road, Tauranga, at 2.00pm Saturday 23rd August.

Whatever your politics, it is worth going along to hear what Shane has to say. There is so much silly stuff going on in New Zealand. It is good to hear the perspective from one of the governments coalition partners. Shane will also be speaking in Katikati in September.
